En términos de empleo, en 2010 cerca de 960.000 personas fueron directamente contratadas por aseguradoras, cifra prácticamente igual a la de 2009, según los últimos datos disponibles. Pese cifra sólo refleja los que trabajan directamente para las compañías de seguros, no incluye a los millones de trabajadores adicionales o subcontratados para puestos intermediarios independientes.

"Estas últimas cifras ponen de manifiesto la enorme importancia de la industria de seguros para la economía de Europa", afirma Michaela Koller, directora general de Insurance Europe. "Su papel como principal inversor a largo plazo y significativo empleador hace que sea vital para la estabilidad económica de Europa y el crecimiento. Esto era antes de que los beneficios de sus productos para la economía y la sociedad se tuvieran en cuenta".
